We empower young people through adventure and challenge to be ready for life.

Welcome to 1st Devonport Scout Group

1st Devonport Scout Group is proud to be part of Scouts Aotearoa, New Zealand’s national Scouting movement.

Our purpose is: “We empower young people through adventure and challenge to be ready for life.”

We offer a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where young people aged 5 to 26 can explore the outdoors, build friendships, and develop life skills. Through our youth-led, adult-supported programme, we help young people grow in confidence, resilience, and leadership.

Based in Devonport, we run four sections of Scouting: Keas, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers. We believe in learning by doing, and we’re passionate about helping young people shape their own experiences and make a positive impact in their communities.

The 1st Devonport Scout Group was founded in 1908, making it one of the two oldest continuously operating Scout groups in New Zealand. Our journey began in a shed in the garden of a house on Mozeley Avenue, and we’ve been part of the community ever since. Read more about our history here

We empower youth through adventure, while keeping our young people safe. All our leaders are trained and police vetted and we have safety policies in place. There is always at least one adult who has a current first aid certificate. You can see more on our safeguarding here About – Scouts Aotearoa

Get involved! We are an organisation that relies heavily on our volunteers. You can support us through volunteering, donating or buying one of our Christmas trees.
